NOTICE EXPLAINING PERCENTILE BASED NORMALIZATION
1. It is clarified to candidates that the merit for Shortlisting for PET has been determined on the basis of Percentile Score (RRC Scores). The Percentile Score of a candidate is dependent on only two values – number of candidates scoring Prorated Raw Marks equal to or less than the candidate and total number of candidates who have appeared in the particular shift for that particular RRC. This method is simple and candidates themselves can calculate Percentile Score based on two values given above.
2. The Normalized Marks have been used to determine whether the candidate has scored minimum qualifying marks or not i.e. UR-40%, EWS-40%, OBC (NCL)-30%, SC-30%, ST-30% with 2% relaxation for PwBD candidates in case of shortage of PwBD candidates against vacancies reserved for them as per qualifying criteria given in Para 14.1 of CEN No. RRC-01/2019. Also, for CCAA candidates Normalized Marks have been used to give weightage to NCVT marks and therefore in their case merit would be decided by taking Normalized Marks into consideration.
3. Normalized Marks are interpolated marks of the candidate which are determined by using standard mathematical interpolation formula that helps to determine the marks a candidate would have scored had the candidate appeared in Base Shift which is again dependent upon the relative performance of candidate reflected in candidate’s Prorated Raw Marks along with Percentile Score. For each RRC there is unique Base Shift. Normalization has been done RRC wise.
4. For candidates, other than CCAA candidates, merit based on Percentile Score will be same as merit based on Normalized Marks so Normalized Marks has not affected the candidate’s merit at all.
5. Also if a candidate has appeared in Base Shift that has been used for calculating Normalized Marks, the candidate’s Normalized Marks will be same as Prorated Raw Marks and there will be no change as Normalized Marks as explained above are the marks a candidate would have scored had the candidate appeared in Base Shift.
6. Candidates are advised to refer only to the official websites of RRBs for latest updates on the recruitment process. Please do not be misled by unauthenticated sources.
7. Beware of touts who try to misguide candidates with fake promises of appointment for jobs on illegal consideration. RRB selections are based on Computer Based Test (CBT) and recruitment is based only on the merit of the candidates.
